Useful Information
Your child will need the following Playgroup essentials:
-
a pair of indoor shoes to wear in the hall
-
a pair of wellies to wear in the garden
-
a spare set of clothes
-
nappies if required
We advise that your child doesn't come to playgroup in their best clothes as we like to have lots of messy fun. The best way to learn is through play, which may result in the odd item needing a wash after the session.
Please label your child's belongings to avoid confusion especially shoes and jackets.
Registered play leaders run our sessions with a ratio of 1 adult to 5 children.
See Saw
Before your child starts at St. Devenick's, you will be provided with log in details to your own Family Seesaw account. Seesaw offers a two-way communication feature that provide continuous visibility into your child's learning journey to support and celebrate their learning.

Our Ethos
Ethos
We welcome all children to take their first steps in learning away from home, by creating inspirational play experiences within a safe and friendly environment.
Values
Children are at the heart of everything we value at St Devenick’s Playgroup and children’s interests influence all our decisions.
Aims
To deliver high quality childcare which meets all our children’s needs and evolves with updated guidance.
To maintain a safe and inspiring child focused environment, both indoor and outdoor, with exciting activities and loose parts play.
To build open, honest, trusting relationships with families and children.
To celebrate and respect diversity every-day, because children are unique individuals.
To provide friendly approachable passionate staff, with big welcoming smiles, who always prioritise time to listen and are they themselves happy, valued and heard.

Curriculum for Excellence
At St Devenick’s Playgroup we follow the Pre-birth to Three framework and guidelines laid down by the Scottish Executive in the Curriculum for Excellence (CFE).
The CFE aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in life, learning and work.
It aims to develop four capacities, helping children to become:
successful learners
confident individuals
responsible citizens
effective contributors
As part of the CFE requirements, we maintain a Learning Journey for each child at Playgroup. This is a folder of observations and information about the child and their development, which is kept up to date by their key worker. You are free to look at your child’s learning journey at any time, and we encourage you to do so.

Valuable Parent Help
Fundraising
Our Playgroup is a non profit making charity, which relies on parents volunteering their skills and time in order to help raise funds. These funds then contribute to our running costs and allow us to keep our fee's down. In the past we have had many fun and successful fundraising events including Race Nights, Ceilidh's, Halloween Fairs, Quiz's and Raffles. These events are also a great way to build friendships.
Playgroup Duties
Iarents and family members are invited to volunteer their time, once every two terms by accompanying their child to the playgroup for a session in order to help with duties. This is a great opportunity to see their child enjoying all the various activities on offer and having fun with their friends. This usually involves helping clean resources and preparing activities, which is a massive help. If families have any special skills or occupations, they wish to share with the children these are always welcome.
